With the NBA tip off only six days away it is that time of year where coaches have a fresh record, players are getting into game mode, and the fans start to put together their preseason polls for the 2007-2008 season. If there was yet a better year for controversy, this is it. Early preseason trades, acquisitions and injury have all but proven we are in for a shocking NBA season. With the departure of Kevin Garnett to Boston along with the arrival of Ray Allen, will the once glorified Celtics make there run as an elite team again? Always controversial Kobe Bryant is again in the middle of trade talk while defending his team, organization and himself. The great scorer speaks of wanting to be traded to contenders Chicago and Dallas. High hopes came crashing down fast with two rebuilding teams, out west with Portland and on the east coast with the Bobcats. Future star and first overall pick Greg Oden will undergo season ending knee surgery as well as key ingredient Adam Morrison for the Charlotte, Bobcats. But the biggest story of the off season still resides in Cleveland with the young King himself, King LeBron James. Can the young superstar continue to amaze and make average players great, and possibly make another run at the championship? We all know how good he is and will become, but is there enough around him to make it over the hump. In closing bright spots to watch for are Kevin Durant and Jeff Green in Settle. They could easily be number 1 and 2 in rookie of the year voting. Last but not least can the Spurs repeat with a roster of old men? With thirty teams, each playing well over eighty games, we have six long intense months to let it all unravel, and it opens up with Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs on October 30.

Chelsea,
Reading this reminds me of current sports commentators! You really seem to have a feel for writing about sports, especially basketball. I know I'm going to learn a lot from your blog this semester, especially whether it's worth it for other teams and the Lakers to let Bryant move on...
Keep writing! You might want to think also about sportscasting as a career...this would be a great start.
